• JUNE 25-29 & July 23-27: Who Art You? takes place at several locations in historic downtown Bristol. During the week-long camp, children ages 8-12 participate in creative endeavors including pottery (at Kil'n Time), creative movement (Bristol Ballet), music (with Canjoe John), creative writing (Outside the Box), painting (at blowfish emporium and One of a Kind Gallery), performing arts (Theatre Bristol), healing arts (yoga at The Healing Arts Center), culinary arts (at Southeast Culinary and Hospitality College), and martial arts (Japan Karate Do Organization), and more. In addition, walking tours like the Caterpillar Crawl (sculpture based on the book The Hungry Caterpillar) educate campers about the heart of their community. Limit 10 campers per session. $225.

• JUNE 18-22 and JULY 9-13: The 10th Anniversary Edition is for ages 6-10. Campers will write stories and poems and express their personal creativity through various art projects. $180.
• JULY 9-20: Art, Music, and Drama is a two-week camp for ages 10-16. Participants will write screenplays, create sets, choreograph dance routines, and design costumes. $250.
• JULY 23-27: Digital Media is for rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors with some digital media experience (participants must submit recommendation letters from art or computer teachers). ETSU professor James Livingston will work with campers in the Niswonger Digital Media Lab on producing visual effects combining video clips, still imagery, green screen editing, and motion graphics. $375.
Program coordinator Angela McFall says, "These camps started about 10 years ago [when we decided] to offer a program where children would learn creative writing, art, science, logic problem solving, and computers in a fun atmosphere. The idea was to have the "well-rounded' child."

• JUNE 4-8: Arts4Kids will offer half-day camps (ages 3-5) and full-day camps (ages 6-12). This year's campers will learn about Leonardo da Vinci as a painter, writer, musician, sculptor, inventor, scientist, engineer, architect, geologist, and cartographer. $95-$175.
• JUNE 11-15: K.E.Y.P.A.D. (KingsportARTS Empowering Youth by Participation in Arts Discovery) for ages 13-18 will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. $300 (includes start-up artist kit with supplies for camp and extra to take home).
Both camps will feature work in many art forms - visual, literary, dance, theatre and music. They also integrate math and science. Fees are negotiable. If teens work as counselors at the Arts4Kids camp, they receive free tuition for the K.E.Y.P.A.D. camp.
The K.E.Y.P.A.D. camp is geared toward teens who want to continue their education in the arts after high school and perhaps become professional artists. In addition to workshops in various art forms, campers work on the business side of the arts, such as preparing for auditions, putting together a portfolio and resume, getting demo tapes made and distributed.
According to executive director Cathie Faust, "Our first Arts4Kids camp was in 2006. This is the first year for K.E.Y.P.A.D. Our camps cover all art forms and are cross-curricular. We have the only broad spectrum arts intensive camp for teens in the Kingsport area."

• JUNE 17-22: The Milligan College Fine Arts Summer Academy for high school students will culminate in a talent showcase on Friday, June 22, at 6 p.m. Options include music, theater and digital media (photography, videography and graphic design). Taught by Milligan faculty, programs feature hands-on workshops and lessons, evening activities, morning devotions and fun outings to local destinations. Participants may also choose to earn dual enrollment credit at no additional cost.
Students may stay on campus ($500) or commute as a day student ($400). Tennessee residents may qualify for a grant to help offset the cost of the arts academy.
"The academy is a time of self-discovery and creativity," said Dr. Carrie Swanay, chair of Milligan's Performing, Visual, and Communicative Arts. "Campers always learn a lot and have fun at the same time."

What was it like to be a kid in 18th century Tennessee? A large part of the experience is the clothing you wear, so Rocky Mount will loan campers "period clothing" for youth living in the late 1700s. Summer camp director MaryGrace Walrath says, "This year we will focus on life for Native Americans. Fiber crafts will include finger weaving and vegetable dyeing (dyeing wool using plant materials). Other activities are storytelling, toys and games, paper-making, quill pen writing, gardening, cooking, and frontier medicine featuring medicinal plants used by Indians." Hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday. Limit 10 campers per session. $125. Deadlines to register: May 27 for June camps, June 24 for July camps.

• JUNE 4-8: Artists In Armor is a week-long camp for youth ages 6-11 interested in music, art, and theatre. Students get hands-on experience with musical instruments and an introduction to music theory and rhythm, a variety of art techniques (drawing, painting, paper, sculpture) and have the opportunity to perform in skits. Executive director Jamin Rathbun says, "For Artists in Armor, the art projects, skits, and music change each year, but the overall format is the same - within a Christian context." $100.
• JUNE 11-15: The Princess Ballerina Camp offers girls ages 3-7 dance instruction, classical music, and art projects. In addition, participants will don costumes, try on makeup and jewelry, and go to tea parties and pajama parties. $85.
• JUNE 18-22 & 25-29: Summer Dance Intensives for intermediate and advanced dancers are held Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Students are as young as seven, up through adults, as long as they've had at least two years of ballet (intermediate) and two years on pointe (advanced). Both weeks feature instruction in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, modern, and theatrical dance. Instructors the first week include Trinity staff members as well as Fernando Moraga (international renowned educator), Cheryl Cutlip (Project Dance, former Rockette), Lori Ann Sparks (Central Ballet), Mary Anne Sowers (Mountain View School), Jen Kintner (East Tennessee State University), and more. Guest instructors the second week will be Marc and Anne Wayne (Maxxus Dance Theatre, The Culture House, Störling Dance Theatre) from Kansas City, Mo. $250 per week.

You Can't Do That on Television! is the theme for this year's summer camps, held Mondays-Fridays. Campers and instructors will explore the world of pop culture as they push the boundaries of radio, television, film, animation, and a variety of other media in new and exciting ways. Participants engage in a variety of activities that involve art forms such as dance, music, theater and fine art.
