Kingsport– Symphony of the Mountains celebrates its 2022-2023 Season,“Our Appalachian Mountain Home”with exciting programs and new visuals. Be on the lookout for a new Symphony logo designed in collaboration with The High Roads Agency of Kingsport.
Entertaining, Educating, Enriching are the three pillars upon which Symphony of the Mountains is built. All three are present in the coming season’s programs serving the region of Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginiaand North Carolina.
The seasonopens with a patriotic Independence weekend tour and the annual end-of-July outdoor concerts, including theAllandale performance immediately after Kingsport’s Funfest. Fall programming kicks off with an appearance by world-famous banjo player Béla Fleck, performing his “Juno Concerto” in September. In October Beethoven’s “Emperor Piano Concerto” and Mendelssohn’s “Scottish Symphony” are presented both in the ETSU Martin Center, as well as in a free performance of the Mendelssohn at the Farmers Market in Kingsport, a new annual tradition that has grown out of the pandemic.
The season continues with a Veterans Day Concert, a Celebration for the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce 75thAnniversary in collaboration with three world-class Broadway stars, Holiday Concerts with hundreds of guest artists, a new Violin Concerto by Lucas Richman addressing the issues of homelessness, Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, the “Appalachian Requiem” composed by Voices of the Mountains’ member Robert Campbelle, and a tour of “Peter and the Wolf” with narrator Rick McVey.

One concert remains in the current season, “Woodwinds and All That Jazz” featuring the SOTM Woodwind Quintet and cellist Mathew Wilkinson playing Claude Bolling’s “Suite for Cello and Jazz Piano Trio” Sunday, May 26 at 4p.m. at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol. Tickets are $25. The “Diamond Jubilee Gala” is held June 18 at the MeadowView Marriott Convention Center. Tickets are $150. Tickets for both events may be purchased online or through the office.
