Symphony performs in Bristol and Kingsport

September 30, 2024

Have you ever listened to music that seems to bridge the gap between the past and present? Symphony of the Mountains invites you to experience “Crossing Time: An Afternoon with Bach & Mozart,” where music from three centuries comes together in a way that speaks to all generations. Whether you’re at home in the historic elegance of the Paramount Theatre or enjoying a casual afternoon at the Kingsport Farmers Market, this concert is for everyone.

The concert celebrates three pieces. The first is Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2. Hear the timeless beauty of this Baroque masterpiece, with a special spotlight on Symphony of the Mountains’ principal flute player, Dr. Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham. Joelle Nagger’s “Between Life and Death” is a modern work that brings today’s sounds into the mix with a piece that illustrates how our lives are composed of many contrasting chapters. Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, K550 is an iconic symphony, full of energy and emotion.

The concert is performed twice. Saturday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m., the symphony performs at the Paramount Center for the Arts, Bristol, Tennessee. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 the day of the performance. The concert is performed free at the Kingsport Farmers Market, Kingsport, Tennessee, Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.

The beauty of “Crossing Time” lies in its ability to bring the music of centuries past into the present, offering something for everyone. The Paramount Theatre sets the stage for a formal, intimate experience, while the Farmers Market performance gives you the chance to bring a lawn chair, kick back and enjoy these classics in a laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere — completely free.

No matter which performance you attend, you’ll find that this music speaks to the heart. Come celebrate the ways music can unite us across time and don’t miss this opportunity to connect with the community while enjoying world-class performances.
