The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond has a long history of reaching out -- from traveling Artmobiles in the 1960s to its current partnerships with regional institutions like the William King Museum in Abingdon.
Native Virginians Jim and Fran McGlothlin have homes in Bristol and other parts of the country. They have pledged their American art collection to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and are major donors to the VMFA's expansion and transformation. The couple's commitment supported the creation of VMFA's American Galleries and a new wing, both to be named for the McGlothlins.
Soon, the new McGlothlin Wing will open in Richmond. It will be the jewel in the crown of a $150 million expansion program, the largest in VMFA's history.
VMFA Presentation Available to Local Organizations
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is ready to tell community organizations everything they want to know about the museum's $150-million expansion project and what it will mean for the future.
The presentation is titled The New VMFA - Expect to be Wowed. The illustrated talk, available in 30-minute and 50-minute versions, includes an overview of the museum's collections, details of the expansion, and what to expect once the project is completed. Community organizations will also learn about the role of VMFA's state partnerships and resources available throughout Virginia.
