Transitions: Virginia Intermont Hires New Art Faculty

November 25, 2008

Perry Johnson has joined the faculty at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va. as assistant professor of art.

Johnson says, "Ten years have passed since I earned my BFA from VI. Now I'm working alongside many who nurtured me as an undergraduate." Johnson received his MFA in painting and printmaking from East Tennessee State University. He has served as adjunct faculty for VI College, ETSU, Northeast State Community College, and Southwest Virginia Community College.

In addition, he has worked professionally as a web developer focusing on user interface design and database development.

A native of Richlands, Va., Johnson first enrolled in painting classes while in the eighth grade. Regarding his work as a painter, he says, "Truth is strange and sometimes our best response is to laugh. I enjoy puns -- playing with the relationships between the visual and the verbal."
