Many remember Sam Shepard as a celebrated actor, but he was a Renaissance man, expressing talent not only as an actor but also an award-winning playwright, author, director and screenwriter. Through a partnership between the The Arts Depot and the Meadowview Arts Center, Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4, enjoy an evening with this talent through an hour-long series of readings from Shepard’s plays, dialogue from his books and stories of the screen from the legendary actor.
As part of an effort to embrace art in all of its wonderful forms, the Arts Depot and Meadowview Arts Center are featuring a free tribute to Sam Shepard.
Friday, Nov. 3, the show starts at 7 p.m. at The Arts Depot, a block off Main Street in historic Abingdon, Virginia.
Created and directed by local author Glenn Laszlo ‘Bob’ Weiss, the evening features local talent including Daryl Ann Beeghley, Fred Conner, Paul Dellinger, Norma Jean Howland, James Kroll and Glenna Taylor. There is no charge for the evening of entertainment; however, donations to The Arts Depot are accepted.
Just one day later at 7 p.m. at the Meadowview Arts Center in the center of Meadowview, there is a chance to catch the same show again. The same actors entertain as you enjoy a show that embraces the richness of American rural life and human ingenuity. There are moments of great fun and profound loss, excitement mixed with sadness, and you’ll leave the show feeling as if you have been through a truthful theatrical experience.
