UPDATE: Tanasi Arts & Heritage Center

UNICOI, TN -- Sixty-five Tennessee artists and fine crafters met with members of the Steering Committee for the Tanasi Arts & Heritage Center on Sept. 19, 2009. Many of the artists brought an example of their artwork to form an "Instant Gallery."

The event was a thank-you seminar for the artists who gave of their artworks to "A Taste of Tanasi" in November 2008, but was also open to other interested artists of Northeast Tennessee.

* An update of the Tanasi Arts & Heritage Center progress was given by Unicoi Mayor Johnny Lynch.

* Architect Steven Sykes of Reedy & Sykes, Elizabethton talked about and showed pictures of the proposed building to be built at I-26 exit 32 where a sign marks the site of the future Tanasi home. Its location presents a natural gateway for travelers eastbound into Tennessee and westbound toward Asheville, NC. The Center itself will be a model of sustainable and responsible development that honors the land on which it will thrive.

* Shelburne Ferguson, Jr
., a Kingsport attorney spoke about "Legal Issues in maintaining an art business"

* Unicoi wood turning artist Bill Collison
gave useful information to the artists on "How to Market Your Art"
