KNOXVILLE, TN - Sculpture by Dr. Marvin Tadlock, professor of art at Virginia Intermont College, was awarded in an exhibition in Knoxville.
Dr. Tadlock's "Moire," exhibited in Krutch Park, was selected for a merit award in the Knoxville Art in Public Places Competition, a year-long exhibition featuring large-scale outdoor sculptures throughout downtown.
The eight-foot-tall "Moire" is a stainless steel kinetic piece. It bends with the wind similar to a weather vane except that it moves to right itself when the wind dies. It has two patterns at the top where movement reflects moire patterns.
A frequent exhibitor and multiple award winner in national competitions, Tadlock has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and received a doctorate in education from the University of Georgia.
Many of his works are on permanent display throughout the Southeast, including the Virginia Intermont campus in Bristol.
