VI Professor's Work Chosen for NYC Photography Exhibition

August 29, 2012

Joe Champagne, professor of photography and digital imaging and fine arts chair at Virginia Intermont College, was selected for Art From The Heart 2012, a juried exhibition of international photography and photo-based artwork. His piece entitled, "Weeds, Fence," was displayed, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The exhibition is the creation of the New York-based foundation, The Vanderbilt Republic, which explores paradigm shifts and the purpose and place of artists in society.

"I am drawn to work by artists who apply their unique perspective to illuminating the relationship between their existence and the world around them with a smart, sincere sensibility," said Kahrs, the show's curator.

Champagne notes that he was drawn to the juror's statement, because it summarizes his own artistic purpose.

"I also wanted to support the foundation's cooperative model, where the artists have "intrinsic value' and net profits are shared among all whose work is installed," said Champagne.
