The 67th Annual Virginia Highlands Festival presented awards to the "Juried Fine Art" show winners.
The Fine Art Awards were presented in a lecture given by juror Vera Dickerson. The festival offered more than $1,500 in cash prizes for work chosen by the juror.
Award winners are as follows Award of Excellence: "American Citizen" by Jeff Chapman-Crane; Awards of Distinction: "Traces of Tuscany" by Lisa B. Boardwine; "50th Anniversary II" by E. Mynard Blanton; "Alex" by Judith Fitzgerald; Awards of Merit: "Jaden and Friend" by Lawrence Denecke; "Daisies in the Sky" by Ken Johnson; "Raven" by Catherine Walden; and Committee Award: "Spectacles" by Sally Mook.
Dickerson is the co-founder of The Studio School, Inc. and Signature 9 Gallery, both in Roanoke, Virginia. She has been the focus of 30 one-person shows, and is a signature member of several Watercolor Societies. In 2008 she received a YWCA Women of Achievement in the Arts Award, and has been listed in "Who's Who in American Art" since 1986.
