ELIZABETHTON, TN -- Sixty paintings by Watauga Valley Art League artists were judged by Lisa Boardwine from Grundy, Va. The winners were announced at a reception on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Summer Show at Sycamore Shoals Historic State Park in Elizabethton. A large crowd enjoyed the event, viewing the artwork to the vocal and guitar music of Mike Matthews and Bill Boyd.
The winners are:
Best in Show - "Born Free" by Ken Simmelink from Elizabethton
Second Place - "Whitewater" by Diane Allen, Butler
Third Place - "Liberty" by Gary Chambers, Elizabethton
Memorial Award - "Whitewater" by John Charles, Kingsport
Honorable Mention - "Summer" by Barbara "Jake" Carter, Greeneville
Honorable Mention - "Sushi Platter" by Sharon Neuhaus, Johnson City
Honorable Mention - "Early Morning Sun" by Karen Foote, Johnson City
Honorable Mention - "Blizzard of '93" by Jim Stagner, Johnson City
In addition to the 60 paintings that were judged, the rest of the room is filled with exhibits by 37 member artists as well as plans and information about the Tanasi Center which will benefit both artists and Northeast Tennessee commerce.
The paintings will be on display until July 30, and most are for sale. Artwork may be purchased at the park desk.
