The Richard and Leslie Gilliam Foundation has pledged $500,000 over the next five years to William King Museum of Art for its new Endowment Fund, bringing the total raised to $1,000,000. The Abingdon museum’s Director, Betsy K. White, stressed the importance of this milestone.
“We are so very grateful for this extraordinary gift and its recognition of the museum and the value of its extensive programming. This large gift follows many years of support from the Gilliam family. Our museum, and indeed the whole region, is fortunate to benefit from their generous philanthropy.”
The Gilliam Foundation’s gift joins other individual gifts in recognizing the museum’s need for a stable source of support. “This is an exciting time of transformative growth for the museum, and the establishment of this new endowment is an endorsement of the museum as a valuable asset for the region and worthy of the protection an endowment provides.,” said Betsy White. The new Endowment Fund is intended as support for daily operations. The museum hopes to continue to raise funds for the Endowment Fund, increasing it to $12 million over the next few years.
