ELIZABETHTON, TN -- The fifth annual Newell-Hendershot Watermedia Exhibition opened Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Sycamore Shoals Historic State Park.
The show was named in honor of two late watercolorists, Carol Hendershot and Polly Newell, who diligently worked in the Watauga Valley Art League to spread the love of art in Northeast Tennessee.
The judge for this year's show was Noyes Capehart. Following are the winners:

* Third Place - "There Are No Ordinary Cats" by Sharon Neuhaus of Johnson City, TN

* Kingsport Art Guild and Creative Catalyst Award - "Sherrod's" by Jim Stagner of Johnson City, TN
* Cheap Joe's Award - "Irises" by Joyce Samuel of Bristol, TN
