Winners Announced: Jonesborough Third Annual Open Juried Art Exhibition

April 13, 2015

JONESBOROUGH, TN - The McKinney Center of Jonesborough recently hosted a reception announcing the winners of the Third Annual Open Juried Art Exhibition of 2015.

Over 100 people were in attendance April 2, for Jonesborough's Third Annual Juried Art Exhibition Reception and Awards Ceremony. Classic pop and soul music provided by the duet Nostalgia played in the background while guests mingled with artists and enjoyed a table full of appetizers provided by more than twenty community volunteers.

The juror, Dr. William Underwood Eiland, from the University of Georgia Museum of Art, commented on the quality of work as well as the presentation of the Open Juried Art Show.

"I thought it reflective of a community of area artists who are not afraid to express an aesthetic in their art, such as in those works where the artist has developed a visual vocabulary as well as an individual style or technique," Eiland said. This year artists submitted pieces ranging from mixed media to paintings, including photography, woodworking, mosaics and more, giving the show a well-rounded exhibit of artwork. Many of the artists who submitted works for this competition were local. The show was organized by the Town of Jonesborough's McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington School and sponsored by the First Tennessee Foundation and an anonymous group of Jonesborough residents dedicated to arts education.

Best in Show: Charles Jones, "Finding Balance"
