WKMA introduces new director of advancement

January 31, 2016

ABINGDON, VA – Chase Mitchell joins William King Museum of Art as director of advancement.

A Bristol, Tennessee, native, Chase is a King University and East Tennessee State University alumnus. Prior to joining WKMA, Mitchell taught writing and communication courses at the college level, consulted for an international nonprofit development organization, and worked abroad as an English-as-a-foreign-language teacher.

Chase brings experience and skills that will aid WKMA in diversifying and sustaining its project development, fundraising and public relations campaigns. As a local, Chase appreciates the area's history and cultural heritage-motivation, he says, for furthering the museum's mission, saying, "I'm excited about the opportunity to work with WKMA staff and local artists to build on the positive relationship the museum has with the Abingdon community and patrons of the arts in the greater Tri-Cities region. I've been lucky enough to live and work in other areas of the U.S. as well as internationally, and I can say with sincerity that Southern Appalachia is unique and good in so many of the right ways. I look forward to working with Marcy Miller, executive director, and the Board of Trustees to strengthen existing relationships, and also create new ties with business and community stakeholders."

Miller says she is delighted that Mitchell has joined the Museum team saying, " Chase brings a high caliber of experience and expertise to WKMA. I am eager for him to put his strong background and skills to work for the advancement of the museum."
